People start developing new software solutions daily with thoughts/dreams of success swimming just below the surface.

What's wrong with dreaming of success? Nothing at all.

In fact, most great businesses start this way. The problem is: So do most failures.

I can (and likely will) make lots of points based upon the preceding. The first point I'd like to make is: Ultimate success or failure is where the journey ends, but there's good stuff to be had along the way.

Confused? My apologies - let me give an example. Suppose you embark on an entrepreneurial business adventure and remain in business for six years before the business falters. Odds are you've enjoyed a couple or three good years in business. You've no doubt learned a great deal - things like accounting, sales, and perhaps some copier repair and janitorial skills as well.

The ultimate outcome appears to be failure. But I would argue you've been changed as an individual in ways that could not have occurred by any other means. You're more mature. You understand more about people and what motivates them. Perhaps most importantly, you realize you could do it again if the need or the inclination arose.

My first point about business - any business - is: It's about success, just be prepared to re-engineer your definition of success.

Andy

Introduction

My purpose in creating this blog is to capture thoughts regarding the software development industry.

My experience is primarily developing solutions for Microsoft-based systems, so my comments will naturally reflect this bent.

Here's hoping for an entertaining read...

Andy
